“Robert Gibbs, President Barack Obama’s former press secretary, says that he was once instructed by the White House not to acknowledge the administration’s use of drones. “When I went through the process of becoming press secretary, one of the first things they told me was, you’re not even to acknowledge the drone program,” Gibbs said on MSNBC’s “Up With Chris Hayes” on Sunday. “You’re not even to discuss that it exists.””
Gibbs acknowledged the obvious: “I think what the president has seen is, our denial of the existence of the program when it’s obviously happening undermines people’s confidence overall in the decisions that their government makes.”
Update: Wait, why isn’t Nancy Pelosi speaking out about this? A few years ago, the CIA confirmed that Pelosi lied to the media when she claimed the Bush Administration didn’t brief her about enhanced interrogation techniques used against al-Qaeda prisoners. Now, she would be able to legitimately claim that the Obama Administration didn’t brief her about drone strikes on al-Qaeda terrorists– but being the two-faced scumbag politician that she is, Pelosi is silent.
“Obama famously promised to close the Guantanamo detention facility within a year of becoming president of the United States. But as he acknowledges, it’s still open with “approximately 166 detainees” nearly four full years after Obama was first sworn in as president.”
Update: Obama appointed Daniel Fried as “Special Envoy” in charge of an office that Obama created ostensibly for the purpose of closing the Guantanamo detention facility. But now, that office has been closed (while the Guantanamo detention facility remains open)– Daniel Fried has been “reassigned” and “will not be replaced.”
