Keeping in mind the complexity of the gun control issue, the fact of the matter is that the Second Amendment is as binding as the First Amendment is– and it must be respected.
Obama in 2008: “When you all go home and you’re talking to your buddies and you say, ah ‘He wants to take my gun away.’ You’ve heard it here, I’m on television so everybody knows it. I believe in the Second Amendment. I believe in people’s lawful right to bear arms. I will not take your shotgun away. I will not take your rifle away. I won’t take your handgun away.” That is a direct quote.
Contrast that to 2013, when “the White House is weighing a far broader and more comprehensive approach to curbing the nation’s gun violence than simply reinstating an expired ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition, according to multiple people involved in the administration’s discussions. A working group led by Vice President Biden is seriously considering measures backed by key law enforcement leaders that would require universal background checks for firearm buyers, track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database, strengthen mental health checks, and stiffen penalties for carrying guns near schools or giving them to minors, the sources said.”
Surely we need to take better measures to keep guns out of the wrong hands. But creating a national government database of law-abiding Americans simply exercising their Second Amendment constitutional rights is uncalled for, and constitutes yet another step toward tyranny. Obama’s Department of Homeland Security has purchased 450 million rounds of .40-caliber hollow point bullets— and now Obama wants to take away American citizens’ guns. Our Founders understood the implications: “To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them.” It’s tyranny.
Update: Obama is known for abusing his executive power (“a campaign labeled “We Can’t Wait” pushes unilateral directives and programs from the White House as the only way to push ahead on the president’s agenda when a do-nothing Congress fails to act”) and openly admits that he doesn’t respect the Constitution’s separation of powers… and now VP Joe Biden has announced that Obama intends to issue executive orders to bypass Congress on gun control.
Update #2: Obama’s true intent is clear: he’s now been quoted as saying “I don’t believe people should be able to own guns.” Obama is so egocentric that he actually believes his personal opinion is more authoritative than the U.S. Constitution.
After conservative talk radio host Alex Jones debated gun control with liberal CNN reporter Piers Morgan, CNN aired a show in which liberals (including Piers Morgan) laughed and fantasized about the idea of shooting Alex Jones.
There have also been dozens of open threats of violence made against conservatives by oh-so-peace-loving liberals who want “gun control,” but Obama’s Department of Homeland Security is too partisan to take any action against them. Obama’s Department of Homeland Security only targets right-wing American citizens.
What is going on with Democrats?
1. We have VP Joe Biden advising Americans “if you want to protect yourself, get a double barrel shotgun… Buy a shotgun! Buy a shotgun!” with his typical crazy-eyed look.
Biden has even more advice: “So you want to keep people away in an earthquake? Buy some shotgun shells.”
Biden just can’t shut up: “… you want to keep someone away from your house, just fire the shotgun through the door.”
3. Obama is wasting everyone’s time by responding to recent gun violence by “calling on research on the effect of media and video games on gun violence.” Hmmm I wonder… could there be any correlation?? This is a topic that’s already been extensively researched, and the research results are common sense. Furthermore, Obama’s unconstitutional, counterproductive anti-gun policies only serve to make it look like he’s taking meaningful action. All the gratuitous, desensitizing violence in the entertainment industry is a mere footnote to Obama— it’s not a central part of his gun control discussion because Hollywood supports him politically.
Following Obama’s unwise and untimely Iraq withdrawal, Iraq is reported to be “unraveling” with death squads, bombings, and ethnic tensions. And Afghanistan is such a disaster that Obama quickly broke his campaign promise to pull-out American troops by 2014.
Now, we’ve been informed by VP Joe Biden that Obama “doesn’t want to go” to Iraq and Afghanistan.
Apparently Biden isn’t enjoying being part of the most hateful, divisive presidential administration in U.S. history– and being compelled to call Romney and Ryan liars who “don’t have much character at all.”
Update: Oh, now it all makes sense: Biden isn’t proud to be Obama’s Vice-President, because Biden believes he’s actually the President.
“I’m proud to be President of the United States.” — VP Joe Biden
Obama orders a pay raise for VP Joe Biden, Congress, and federal employees– DURING fiscal cliff negotiations
As the country teetered on the edge of the fiscal cliff (caused by excess government spending), Obama issued an executive order to raise the salaries of VP Joe Biden (to $231,900/year), Congress (to $174,900/year), and federal employees in general (~0.5% pay raise). And what will these government pay raises cost American taxpayers? $11 billion.
Obama wrongly assumes that all victims of Hurricane Sandy have Internet access: “When President Barack Obama urged Americans under siege from Hurricane Sandy to stay inside and keep watch on ready.gov for the latest, he left out something pretty important — where to turn if the electricity goes out… A call to FEMA’s news desk… found even they didn’t have any non-Internet information readily available beyond suggestions that people call 911 in an emergency. When asked where folks should turn for information if they have no power, a FEMA worker said, “Well, those people who have a laptop with a little battery life on it can try that way. Otherwise, you’re right.” Such blind spots are perilous to the public, experts say.”
However, for those victims of Hurricane Sandy who haven’t lost electrical power, Obama has an important message: “The president made clear that he expects his team to remain focused as the immediate impacts of Hurricane Sandy continue and lean forward in their response,” the White House said in a statement about Mr. Obama’s video-teleconference that he conducted from the White House Situation Room. “Forward” is the slogan of his re-election campaign.
Vice President Joe Biden acknowledges the obvious: “How they can justify raising taxes on the middle class that’s been buried in the last four years?” Yes, the middle class HAS been buried under Obama’s policies for the past 4 years.
Updated again: “While on the campaign trail for Obama in the battleground state of Virginia on Saturday, the vice-president gave a shout-out to Senate hopeful Tim Kaine but referred to the local candidate by the wrong name. ‘I’m a big Tom Kaine fan, a big Tom Kaine fan,’ Biden said enthusiastically.”
Updated for a third time: Biden accuses Romney of voting to give “a $500 trillion dollar tax-cut to 120,000 families.” Note that the gross domestic product (GDP) of the United States is approximately $15 trillion.
Updated for a fourth time: Biden refers to Obama as “President Clinton.”
Obama/Biden doesn’t have any substance on the issues– they’ve failed for 4 years, so what do they do? They try to dumb down the voters: “They’re going to put ya’ll back in chains.” — VP Biden to a 1/2 African-American audience
