Democrats viciously denounced President George W. Bush for supposedly infringing on Americans’ civil liberties by monitoring citizens in communication with al-Qaeda and terrorists in general. But they’ve been strangely quiet as Obama’s policies dwarf any ‘infringement’ that might have occurred under the Bush Administration.
Obama extended Bush’s Patriot Act, has been compiling a “vast campaign database” with voters’ personal information, and granted the government authority to store private information about American citizens who are not suspected of any crime— Obama has every American citizen under virtual surveillance, and plans to use thousands of surveillance drones in U.S. skies. We already knew all of this, but there hasn’t been a collective burst of outrage from liberals and Democrats– because liberals and Democrats accept tyranny when they are the ones being tyrants. So we can’t expect liberals and Democrats to be upset about this fact either: Obama’s surveillance program is bigger than Bush’s.
Update: Obama is going to “give all U.S. spy agencies full access to a massive database that contains financial data on American citizens and others who bank in the country, according to a Treasury Department document”– giving them “the ability to analyze more raw financial data than they have ever had before.”
Obama has imposed intrusive surveillance programs affecting each and every American citizen, and plans to use thousands of surveillance drones in American skies for “public safety” purposes.
Obama’s second term agenda is focused on disarming the American people– while stockpiling millions of rounds of ammunition and more than 2,000 light-armored tanks for his Department of Homeland Security, which has labeled political conservatives and veterans in America as potential terrorists.
But this is getting more disturbing by the day.
“Recently uncovered government documents reveal that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) unmanned Predator B drone fleet has been custom designed to identify civilians carrying guns and track cell phone signals.” Senator Rand Paul felt compelled to filibuster on the floor of the U.S. Senate because he wasn’t getting straight answers on Obama’s drone program– specifically, Obama’s Attorney General Eric Holder indicated that there are circumstances under which it “would be constitutional to carry out a drone strike against an American on American soil” even if that American was not an imminent danger to public safety. It’s incredible that the current U.S. Attorney General would disregard 14th Amendment Due Process rights for American citizens (a fundamental right which is ingrained in all law students across America) and didn’t object to this “slippery slope” toward tyranny. It was only after Rand Paul’s history-making 13-hour filibuster in the U.S. Senate that Obama’s Attorney General was forced to clarify that “President Obama does not have the authority to kill an American on U.S. soil in a non-combat situation.” How comforting.
Update: After Rand Paul’s filibuster, the Air Force stopped publishing statistics about U.S. drone strikes and “erased previously published statistics from its website.”
Keeping in mind the complexity of the gun control issue, the fact of the matter is that the Second Amendment is as binding as the First Amendment is– and it must be respected.
Obama in 2008: “When you all go home and you’re talking to your buddies and you say, ah ‘He wants to take my gun away.’ You’ve heard it here, I’m on television so everybody knows it. I believe in the Second Amendment. I believe in people’s lawful right to bear arms. I will not take your shotgun away. I will not take your rifle away. I won’t take your handgun away.” That is a direct quote.
Contrast that to 2013, when “the White House is weighing a far broader and more comprehensive approach to curbing the nation’s gun violence than simply reinstating an expired ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition, according to multiple people involved in the administration’s discussions. A working group led by Vice President Biden is seriously considering measures backed by key law enforcement leaders that would require universal background checks for firearm buyers, track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database, strengthen mental health checks, and stiffen penalties for carrying guns near schools or giving them to minors, the sources said.”
Surely we need to take better measures to keep guns out of the wrong hands. But creating a national government database of law-abiding Americans simply exercising their Second Amendment constitutional rights is uncalled for, and constitutes yet another step toward tyranny. Obama’s Department of Homeland Security has purchased 450 million rounds of .40-caliber hollow point bullets— and now Obama wants to take away American citizens’ guns. Our Founders understood the implications: “To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them.” It’s tyranny.
Update: Obama is known for abusing his executive power (“a campaign labeled “We Can’t Wait” pushes unilateral directives and programs from the White House as the only way to push ahead on the president’s agenda when a do-nothing Congress fails to act”) and openly admits that he doesn’t respect the Constitution’s separation of powers… and now VP Joe Biden has announced that Obama intends to issue executive orders to bypass Congress on gun control.
Update #2: Obama’s true intent is clear: he’s now been quoted as saying “I don’t believe people should be able to own guns.” Obama is so egocentric that he actually believes his personal opinion is more authoritative than the U.S. Constitution.
As the GOP always knew, Obamacare is a tool of tyranny. You don’t even need to be anti-gun control to find it repulsive that Obama is now using Obamacare to compel doctors to ask their patients about gun ownership and “gun safety.” This isn’t a question of health or security– this is about freedom and privacy. Obama should not use legislation such as Obamacare for unintended purposes so that he can advance his political agenda.
There are certainly desirable gun control measures that should be taken– but Obama won’t let the American people have stricter background checks unless they also accept a national database of law-abiding gun owners. It’s all or nothing, to Obama.
King Obama gets a lifetime of armed protection– but doesn’t think the American peasants should be allowed to use guns to defend themselves in their own homes
While he was an Illinois state senator, “Obama opposed legislation providing an exception to handgun restrictions if the weapon was used in the defense of one’s home.” That’s the rule that Obama wants applied to all American citizens– you can’t use a gun EVEN TO DEFEND YOURSELF FROM AN INTRUDER IN YOUR OWN HOME.
YET, Obama has signed a bill “which will cost American taxpayers millions of dollars” that will give him armed bodyguards for the rest of his entire life. Obama wants guns to protect his life, but not yours.
AND, Obama wants his kids to have armed guards at school– but he doesn’t want your kids to have any such security. Obama says he is “skeptical that the only answer is putting more guns in schools” after the Sandy Hook Elementary massacre, but has ensured that there are 11 armed guards on duty at all times at the school that his two daughters attend in Washington, D.C.
Obama isn’t merely a hypocrite– he’s an elitist who believes the law doesn’t apply to him.
Obama Administration secretly grants government power to store private information about innocent Americans
“In a secret government agreement granted without approval or debate from lawmakers, the U.S. attorney general recently gave the National Counterterrorism Center sweeping new powers to store dossiers on U.S. citizens, even if they are not suspected of a crime.” So, it isn’t just that Obama doesn’t care about the Constitution’s separation of powers— he’s also made it really clear that he wants to violate your civil liberties more than the Bush Administration EVER did.
According to a whistleblower, the FBI can access the e-mails sent by everyone in the United States. And while virtual surveillance was also conducted under the Bush Administration, the whistleblower says that “the change is it’s getting worse” and the FBI is “doing more” to access Americans’ private information under the Obama Administration.
In other words: Obama is violating Americans’ civil liberties MORE than Bush ever did!
Democrats want to read your e-mails without a warrant, and have been collecting personal information about you.
As we all know, the Democrats are the party of “civil liberties”:
The Democrat-controlled Senate has proposed a law that will allow the federal government to read your e-mails without a search warrant.
In case that didn’t invade your privacy enough, Obama has taken care to compile a “vast campaign database” that “includes information on voters’ magazine subscriptions, car registrations, housing values and hunting licenses, along with scores estimating how likely they were to cast ballots for his reelection.” It isn’t just Obama– the Democratic Party itself is now pushing to expand the scope of this “vast campaign database” for future elections.
