Democrats viciously denounced President George W. Bush for supposedly infringing on Americans’ civil liberties by monitoring citizens in communication with al-Qaeda and terrorists in general. But they’ve been strangely quiet as Obama’s policies dwarf any ‘infringement’ that might have occurred under the Bush Administration.
Obama extended Bush’s Patriot Act, has been compiling a “vast campaign database” with voters’ personal information, and granted the government authority to store private information about American citizens who are not suspected of any crime— Obama has every American citizen under virtual surveillance, and plans to use thousands of surveillance drones in U.S. skies. We already knew all of this, but there hasn’t been a collective burst of outrage from liberals and Democrats– because liberals and Democrats accept tyranny when they are the ones being tyrants. So we can’t expect liberals and Democrats to be upset about this fact either: Obama’s surveillance program is bigger than Bush’s.
Update: Obama is going to “give all U.S. spy agencies full access to a massive database that contains financial data on American citizens and others who bank in the country, according to a Treasury Department document”– giving them “the ability to analyze more raw financial data than they have ever had before.”
“Obama famously promised to close the Guantanamo detention facility within a year of becoming president of the United States. But as he acknowledges, it’s still open with “approximately 166 detainees” nearly four full years after Obama was first sworn in as president.”
Update: Obama appointed Daniel Fried as “Special Envoy” in charge of an office that Obama created ostensibly for the purpose of closing the Guantanamo detention facility. But now, that office has been closed (while the Guantanamo detention facility remains open)– Daniel Fried has been “reassigned” and “will not be replaced.”
During debt-ceiling negotiations to avoid the “fiscal cliff,” the White House informed House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan that it plans to break the law by missing the legal deadline for sending a budget to Congress.
Obama knows he’s a failure– in 2006, he had these harsh words to say about then-President George W. Bush, who added less national debt during his 8-year term than Obama added during his first 4-year term:
“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.” — Obama
Yes, we have a failure of leadership in the Obama Administration– and Americans deserve better. Well said, Obama.
Obama Administration secretly grants government power to store private information about innocent Americans
“In a secret government agreement granted without approval or debate from lawmakers, the U.S. attorney general recently gave the National Counterterrorism Center sweeping new powers to store dossiers on U.S. citizens, even if they are not suspected of a crime.” So, it isn’t just that Obama doesn’t care about the Constitution’s separation of powers— he’s also made it really clear that he wants to violate your civil liberties more than the Bush Administration EVER did.
“During his first run for president, Barack Obama made one very specific promise to voters: He would cut health insurance premiums for families by $2,500, and do so in his first term.” Too bad the reality is that the Obama Administration has INCREASED health insurance premiums for family coverage by $3,065.
Health insurance premiums didn’t increase to such an extent under the much-maligned Bush Administration.
Thanks to Obamacare, you can expect your health insurance premiums to increase even more over the next 4 years.
According to a whistleblower, the FBI can access the e-mails sent by everyone in the United States. And while virtual surveillance was also conducted under the Bush Administration, the whistleblower says that “the change is it’s getting worse” and the FBI is “doing more” to access Americans’ private information under the Obama Administration.
In other words: Obama is violating Americans’ civil liberties MORE than Bush ever did!
