Democrats viciously denounced President George W. Bush for supposedly infringing on Americans’ civil liberties by monitoring citizens in communication with al-Qaeda and terrorists in general. But they’ve been strangely quiet as Obama’s policies dwarf any ‘infringement’ that might have occurred under the Bush Administration.
Obama extended Bush’s Patriot Act, has been compiling a “vast campaign database” with voters’ personal information, and granted the government authority to store private information about American citizens who are not suspected of any crime— Obama has every American citizen under virtual surveillance, and plans to use thousands of surveillance drones in U.S. skies. We already knew all of this, but there hasn’t been a collective burst of outrage from liberals and Democrats– because liberals and Democrats accept tyranny when they are the ones being tyrants. So we can’t expect liberals and Democrats to be upset about this fact either: Obama’s surveillance program is bigger than Bush’s.
Update: Obama is going to “give all U.S. spy agencies full access to a massive database that contains financial data on American citizens and others who bank in the country, according to a Treasury Department document”– giving them “the ability to analyze more raw financial data than they have ever had before.”
Fresh off of the political fallout from sequestration, the Obama Administration shocked America with a deranged policy development: “The U.S. Transportation Security Administration will let people carry small pocketknives onto passenger planes for the first time since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, along with golf clubs, hockey sticks and plastic Wiffle Ball-style bats. The agency will permit knives with retractable blades shorter than 6 centimeters (2.36 inches) and narrower than 1/2 inch.”
First of all, what is the point of this policy? Al-Qaeda is NOT “on the run”— Americans were recently killed by terrorists in Libya and Algeria, and terrorists in Afghanistan have not diminished their attacks on U.S. soldiers. The infamous “underwear bomber” successfully smuggled explosive liquid past TSA onto a jet almost 1 year into Obama’s first term. Allowing knives, baseball bats, and golf clubs onto airplanes is helpful to terrorists and dangerous for Americans. In response to this idiotic policy, the Flight Attendants Union Coalition has launched “a nationwide legislative and public campaign” (including petitioning the White House) to prevent another national security disaster.
The TSA’s new policy is even more disturbing in light of the report that “Some of the September 11 hijackers may have been armed with a high-strength, folding, metal utility knife rather than the more easily concealed box-cutter with a plastic handle, according to an independent commission investigating the terrorist attacks.”
Update: Even more disturbing is a new report from a former TSA screener at Newark airport: “Did you know you don’t need a high-school diploma or GED to work as a security screener? These are the same screeners that TSA chief John Pistole and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano refer to as a first-class first line of defense in the war on terror. These are the employees who could never keep a job in the private sector. I wouldn’t trust them to walk my dog. An agent got through Newark last week with an improvised explosive device? That’s not even news to anyone who works there. It happens all the time… We’re not any big deterrent. It’s all for show.” And regarding the unconstitutional tactics of TSA? This whistleblower says “Every time you read about a TSA horror story, it’s usually about a screener doing what he or she is instructed to do.”
Obama has imposed intrusive surveillance programs affecting each and every American citizen, and plans to use thousands of surveillance drones in American skies for “public safety” purposes.
Obama’s second term agenda is focused on disarming the American people– while stockpiling millions of rounds of ammunition and more than 2,000 light-armored tanks for his Department of Homeland Security, which has labeled political conservatives and veterans in America as potential terrorists.
But this is getting more disturbing by the day.
“Recently uncovered government documents reveal that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) unmanned Predator B drone fleet has been custom designed to identify civilians carrying guns and track cell phone signals.” Senator Rand Paul felt compelled to filibuster on the floor of the U.S. Senate because he wasn’t getting straight answers on Obama’s drone program– specifically, Obama’s Attorney General Eric Holder indicated that there are circumstances under which it “would be constitutional to carry out a drone strike against an American on American soil” even if that American was not an imminent danger to public safety. It’s incredible that the current U.S. Attorney General would disregard 14th Amendment Due Process rights for American citizens (a fundamental right which is ingrained in all law students across America) and didn’t object to this “slippery slope” toward tyranny. It was only after Rand Paul’s history-making 13-hour filibuster in the U.S. Senate that Obama’s Attorney General was forced to clarify that “President Obama does not have the authority to kill an American on U.S. soil in a non-combat situation.” How comforting.
Update: After Rand Paul’s filibuster, the Air Force stopped publishing statistics about U.S. drone strikes and “erased previously published statistics from its website.”
Keeping in mind the complexity of the gun control issue, the fact of the matter is that the Second Amendment is as binding as the First Amendment is– and it must be respected.
Obama in 2008: “When you all go home and you’re talking to your buddies and you say, ah ‘He wants to take my gun away.’ You’ve heard it here, I’m on television so everybody knows it. I believe in the Second Amendment. I believe in people’s lawful right to bear arms. I will not take your shotgun away. I will not take your rifle away. I won’t take your handgun away.” That is a direct quote.
Contrast that to 2013, when “the White House is weighing a far broader and more comprehensive approach to curbing the nation’s gun violence than simply reinstating an expired ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition, according to multiple people involved in the administration’s discussions. A working group led by Vice President Biden is seriously considering measures backed by key law enforcement leaders that would require universal background checks for firearm buyers, track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database, strengthen mental health checks, and stiffen penalties for carrying guns near schools or giving them to minors, the sources said.”
Surely we need to take better measures to keep guns out of the wrong hands. But creating a national government database of law-abiding Americans simply exercising their Second Amendment constitutional rights is uncalled for, and constitutes yet another step toward tyranny. Obama’s Department of Homeland Security has purchased 450 million rounds of .40-caliber hollow point bullets— and now Obama wants to take away American citizens’ guns. Our Founders understood the implications: “To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them.” It’s tyranny.
Update: Obama is known for abusing his executive power (“a campaign labeled “We Can’t Wait” pushes unilateral directives and programs from the White House as the only way to push ahead on the president’s agenda when a do-nothing Congress fails to act”) and openly admits that he doesn’t respect the Constitution’s separation of powers… and now VP Joe Biden has announced that Obama intends to issue executive orders to bypass Congress on gun control.
Update #2: Obama’s true intent is clear: he’s now been quoted as saying “I don’t believe people should be able to own guns.” Obama is so egocentric that he actually believes his personal opinion is more authoritative than the U.S. Constitution.
Regarding Obama’s bad policy relating to sequestration, “Stephen D. Abney, the chief public affairs official for the Army’s Joint Munitions Command” e-mailed soldiers AND civilian contractors and warned them to “Avoid giving an answer that might be perceived as criticism of the Commander in Chief or any political party” in the event they’re contacted by the media.
Obama Administration is buying more than a billion bullets– is this an “arms race” against the American people?
Now, DHS “wants to buy more than 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition in the next four or five years.” To put this in perspective, it’s been noted that “during the height of active battle operations in Iraq, U.S. soldiers used 5.5 million rounds of ammunition a month. Extrapolating the figures, the DHS has purchased enough bullets over the last 10 months to wage a full scale war for almost 30 years. Such massive quantities of ammo purchases have stoked fears that the agency is preparing for some kind of domestic unrest.” Even more problematic is the fact that Obama is disarming the American people while arming the federal government.
Update: DHS has also purchased 2,700 Mine Resistant Armor Protected Vehicles (MRAP).
Bob Woodward, who famously reported the Watergate scandal that led to the resignation of Richard Nixon, is continuing to report that Obama is to blame for the implementation of the sequester— he says that the sequester is “the “brain child” of the White House” and “Obama personally approved of the plan.” The White House has “pushed back” against Bob Woodward on Twitter– a move that Obama already regrets.
Now, Bob Woodward’s pride is taking front center stage, and he’s “ripped into President Barack Obama… for a decision not to deploy an aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf because of budget concerns. “Can you imagine Ronald Reagan sitting there and saying, ‘Oh, by the way, I can’t do this because of some budget document?'” Woodward said. “Or George W. Bush saying, ‘You know, I’m not going to invade Iraq because I can’t get the aircraft carriers I need?'” Or even Bill Clinton saying, ‘You know, I’m not going to attack Saddam Hussein’s intelligence headquarters,’ … because of some budget document?”… “Under the Constitution, the President is commander-in-chief and employs the force. And so we now have the President going out because of this piece of paper and this agreement. ‘I can’t do what I need to do to protect the country,'” Woodward said. “That’s a kind of madness that I haven’t seen in a long time,” he said.”
Update: Wow, this really is war! Bob Woodward told CNN that a “very senior person” at the White House warned him in an email that he would “regret doing this.”
Update #2: Fox News made a very interesting point about Woodward’s response: “There was something very quaint about Bob Woodward’s concern about the attacks he’s been receiving from the Obama White House. Here’s what Woodward told Politico: “I think if Obama himself saw the way they’re dealing with some of this, he would say, ‘Whoa, we don’t tell any reporter ‘you’re going to regret challenging us.’ ” Woodward assumes that if only President Obama knew about the nastygrams and threats and attacks from his team the president would step in and rein in his over-eager staffers. If only Obama knew! Woodward, once celebrated by Democrats for yanking down Richard Nixon’s imperial presidency, now seems puzzled by the doings of the current and even more imperial Obama presidency.” Obama is responsible for his own administration, but Woodward– perhaps out of fear of being labeled a racist for criticizing ‘the first African-American President’?– continues to make excuses for Obama, and is reluctant to place blame on Obama directly. Every action of the Obama Administration is attributable to Obama directly– he is directly responsible for those to whom he delegates authority, and he’s responsible for knowing what’s going on: this is a legal principle.
Update #3: It’s now been revealed that “A day after Woodward’s claim that a senior White House official had told him he would “regret” writing a column criticizing President Obama’s stance on the sequester, Lanny Davis, a longtime close advisor to President Bill Clinton, told WMAL’s Mornings on the Mall Thursday he had received similar threats for newspaper columns he had written about Obama in the Washington Times.”
Davis told WMAL that his editor, John Solomon, “received a phone call from a senior Obama White House official who didn’t like some of my columns, even though I’m a supporter of Obama. I couldn’t imagine why this call was made.” Davis says the Obama aide told Solomon, “that if he continued to run my columns, he would lose, or his reporters would lose their White House credentials.”… “I called three senior people at the White House, and I said, ‘I want this person to be told this can never happen again, and it’s inappropriate.’ I got a call back from someone who was in the White House saying it will never happen again.””
Obama’s thuggery is completely out of control. Journalist Ron Fournier has now come forward with the same story:
Fournier says: “I had angered the White House, particularly a senior White House official who I am unable to identify because I promised the person anonymity… The official angered by my Woodward tweet sent me an indignant e-mail. “What’s next, a Nazi analogy?” the official wrote, chastising me for spreading “bull**** like that” I was not offended by the note, mild in comparison to past exchanges with this official. But it was the last straw in a relationship that had deteriorated… I received several e-mails and telephone calls from this White House official filled with vulgarity, abusive language, and virtually the same phrase that Politico characterized as a veiled threat.”
Obama’s strategy is beyond the obvious:
- Attempt to de-legitimize and silence news organizations (such as Fox News) that hold Obama accountable for his actions and broadcast both supporting and opposing viewpoints on the Obama Administration.
- Monitor journalists to ensure they are in line with Obama’s agenda.
- Refuse to answer journalists’ questions, and pre-package journalists’ questions.
- Get angry at local reporters who ask tough questions.
- Lanny Davis and Bob Woodward are proof that Obama gets angry at national reporters who ask tough questions too, even if they’re liberal!
Update: Obama is spamming everyone— not just Republicans.
Obama’s unconstitutional/corrupt anti-gun crusade has now reached a whole new level: “Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas) accused Obama of trying to make support for his position look stronger than it really is by flooding Twitter with messages from people who don’t exist… “Obama’s anti-gun campaign is a fraud,” Stockman said. “Obama’s supporters are panicking and willing to do anything to create the appearance of popular support, even if it means trying to defraud Congress”… Stockman said that in response to Obama’s call for people to tweet their congressman in support of gun control legislation, he received just 16 tweets. But he said all of these messages were identical, and that a closer look at them revealed that only six were from real people. “The other 10 are fake, computer-generated spambots,” his office said in a press release. As evidence, he said these 10 tweets use default graphics and names, and have not engaged in any interaction with other people. Two of the tweets were sent at nearly the same time, and both follow just one person: Brad Schenck, Obama’s former digital strategist.”
Update: Obama also sent Michelle Obama to ABC News to falsely claim that a 15-year-old girl who was killed in Chicago after performing during the inauguration was shot with an ‘automatic weapon’– in fact, Chicago police reported that it was a handgun. Obama has been pushing for new restrictions on semi-automatic weapons and high-capacity magazines, and wants America to believe that his policy will eliminate gun violence– but the truth is that gun control is a complicated issue, and Obama’s anti-gun crusade is hypocritical and unconstitutional.
